The next step has to be on a PC, so we’re going to step away from the Wii to do that. You will need it to perform the actual hack. Right click on Wii System Settings 2, then click on “Internet -> Console Information” and copy the MAC address. Wait, don’t get out of system settings yet, we need one more thing. You see our system version is 4.3U (U = US, E = Europe, J = Japan, K = Korea), so we’re good to go.

Just make sure to completely update your Wii to the latest 4.3 update because after running the exploit you can’t update your Wii anymore (not that we expected Nintendo to release more fixes) because that will undo any changes you apply. If it’s a version lower than 4.3, you can either try another exploit or update your Wii now. Look in the upper right corner and you will see your version number. To check your system version, open the Wii System Settings by clicking on the round Wii button in the lower left corner of the System menu. If you want to know more about each individual achievement, you can read about them on.

There are a number of other methods as well, however, LetterBomb works without clearance and only on System Menu 4.3. LetterBomb’s requirements are straightforward, as this chart from shows. This feat requires the Super Smash Brothers Brawl game, which isn’t necessarily hard to get or expensive to buy, but the method we’re going to show you has a lot less hoops to go through.

We’ve already covered how to hack your Wii using a Super Smash Brothers Brawl exploit called SmashStack.

The objective of this article will be to show you how to install the HBC and HackMii software mods on the latest and presumably the last Wii System Update (4.3), with a simple exploit called LetterBomb. In the past, Nintendo has released system updates intended to improve performance but also to remove “unauthorized channels or firmware may affect the game or the Wii console. To this end, we could think of Homebrew Channel as an app launch channel, which means you can copy special apps and games to your SD card and launch them through HBC. For example, the Netflix Channel on the Wii is nothing more than a glorified Netflix app, and so on. So when you open a channel, all it’s going to do is give you extended functionality beyond just playing games. Channels are nothing more than Nintendo’s app version. So what is the Homebrew channel? It’s just what it looks like, a channel, much like Netflix or Nintendo eShop. It’s really hard to brick a Wii this way, but it could happen.

Of course, the standard disclaimers and disclaimers apply: Any changes or modifications you make to your Wii are entirely your own responsibility and are your sole responsibility. After all, your Wii’s warranty has long expired, and you’re probably not doing anything with it anyway. If you have an old “unbroken” Wii, then there’s no time like the present to change that. Without a doubt, this is a must have feature. The Homebrew Channel (HBC) remains one of the best and most well-known console hacks in recent memory.
